Bank Vaults

New Street Aberystwyth

Last updated: 30 May 2007

Does anyone have information about a pub called the Bank Vaults that used to stand at Number 3 New Street, Aberystwyth?

Sue Davies wants to know more about relatives who ran a pub called Bank Vaults at No 3 New Street, Aberystwyth:

Sue:"My Gt Gt Grandparents moved from Manchester England to Aberystwyth in the late 1880's, I do not have the exact date, and hope someone locally will be able to help me with this information?

My Ancestors owned a Pub called Bank Vaults at Number 3 New Street, and their daughter the barmaid lived next door. Samuel Joseph Glithero, Mary wife, and daughter Mary Agnes born 1883.

In 1901 the daughter Mary Agnes Glithero was married, family folklore say she left the premises in a horse drawn carriage in her bridal wear, would there have been any photos, or interest to put in local paper? Mary Agnes was the only child to live from his 2nd marriage.

I would very much appreciate any information or photos relating to this family or property."

I reckon this is what is now the Taberna Spanish restaurant. It used to be Elim church, but was originally a bank. If you look above the right hand window, you can still see the word "Bank" under the paint.

Before my time (1987), you're not thinking of Downies Vaults in Eastgate are you?
