I adore Aber. It's a perfect town for a student. Loads of pubs and clubs, shops, and places to eat. Everything is cheap, and the place itself is beautiful. I love living there and am dreading having to leave when I finish uni!

My wife and I and our three young children spent four glorious weeks in Aber, summer of 1967. I was a visiting scholar (from the University of Wisconsin) at the University when it consisted of some buildings on the shoreline. T. Arfon Owens was our principal host and what a wonderful person he was! I was assigned the upstairs study that was occupied previously by Prince Charles while he studied adequately to do the Caernarfon Investiture. More recently I have been in touch Dr. Helen Ougham congratulating her on the significant work she is doing in the biological sciences. My wife, Judi! th's, maiden name was Jones so we have more than a passing interest in Wales and Aberystwyth specifically.

I will always live in aberystwyth.

I love Aber so much. I have been here for a few years and well and truly love the place. I fell in love with my partner who I met in Pier Pressure and he and I are so happy now. I don't think I will ever leave Aber unless I move to Brighton.

I've left aber now to work in Cardiff but i think about the great times had there as a student. Nights up the union were great but i think it was the fact that aber is so compact that makes it stand out from anywhere else. The little pubs with great names like Ship and Castle and Kanes Bar. I have some fantastic memories and some of the best friends ever in aber, and whenever i need an excuse to get away aber is always there. Just came back from a weekend there not too long ago and it was great to visit old haunts and relive those awesome student days ( even if only for a short time). I miss the fact that everyone had a pub or a meeting place to call their own. You dont get that down here or anywhere else ive ever been. Thats why aber is so special and will always be my true home.

I was only at aber for a year and have now moved to Plymouth. But my time was spent well there. Seafront was the place to be day or night had some amazing times there, and on the pier as well, fun times!

I taught at UWA for three years in the mid 1990s. Although Aber's remoteness finally drove me to seek pastures new, I still remember the town and my former students and colleagues with fondness. Is the Caffi Y Graig still going?

I love Aber its just such a nice town and full of nice people. Ive just finished my 1st year at the uni and i can't wait to go back!! Living in Aber by the sea is just so nice! I think there is no place i would rather be. Its the best place if your learning welsh because it is bi-lingual not like many places in Wales.

What an absolute gem of a town. This is a great example of how to re-invent and regenerate a seaside town. This place really went downhill in the 80's... but now, it's like a phoenix, a resurrection and an example to the rest of the UK. The place always seems to have a buzz about it, something for the young and old alike. When ever I'm feeling stressed, a quick check of the webcam and a browse around the web pics and I'm all chilled again. Can't wait for my third visit this year.

What's the point of writing that on a page for people who love Aber for their own reasons. There's just no need.I had a brilliant time in Aber and met some of my best friends there who really made the place for me! It's certainly given me a taste for life by the sea, it's so relaxed and in places it is very unspoilt. I left in 2005 from the uni and return every so often....it's not for everybody but I think it's what you make of a place and the people you meet that makes it a really good time, I wouldn't change it for the world!

The Welsh are a bit like us Finns: even though they've lived next to bigger nations and cultures, they've managed to maintain their own language and cultural heritage. I studied in Aber five years ago, and since then it seems that Aber has become a regular town to visit and just relax. The sunset at Victoria Terrace and steamy dancefloor at Bay are unforgettable.

I lived in Aber, Penparcau from 1963 to 1965 and worked at JD Lloyd. Saw The Rolling Stones at the hall on the sea front twice and many other bands and singers. Joined the army and have been back three times. Yes I do miss Aber, The Angel, The Black Lion, The White Horse and the people, be back soon.

Hmm a nice place to spend a week or two in the summer but living there for three years? Personally wasn't for me. Too isolated, too much of a siege mentality amongst the locals and just not enough to do unless you're a serial alcoholic.I may come back one day to visit, but I have no desire to spend a considerable period of time there again.

Great affection and memories of Aber. Born in Aber and visited most school holidays when my grandparents were still alive - maternal set lived in St Michael's Place until early 70s overlooking castle, paternal set ran the Coopers until the early 60s. Many wonderful memories including playing on the Castle, sun and sea at South Beach, walks along the promenade from harbour to 'kick the bar' and back, going up Consti and penny amusements at King's Hall and Pier. Just been back for a few days staying at the Marine Hotel with wonderful sea-view - very stormy when we we there. I'll be a regular visitor to this site now I've discovered the webcam!

I do have lots of happy memories eg Roy James teaching us cricket at the nets after school & surviving a return canoe trip from Tre'r-ddol to Aderdovey with a pal. On the way back the river current forced us out into the bay and we eventually landed at Ynyslas. I really love the Welsh accent & included the name Elwyn on son Jon's birth cert. Sadly, have not been back since 1961 cos tother son & g'kids live in Holland, and the Isle of Mull is also very addictive. I sometimes cycled to Dai's at Trerddol after school. The home trip was eventful- I often dozed off on the bike ( didn't know then I had narcolepsy) though never at full speed down the hill by the National Library fortunately!!

I was born and raised in Aber, and of course love it. Wales will always be the home of my heart, and coming back to visit Aberystwyth is always a highlight. Walking through the streets, feeling the freshness of the air (and sometimes the full-force of the weather), seeing the sea, walking through the castle and St. Michael's church, it's all just great.

As an ex-pat Welshie, I think its fair to say I have a fondness for Wales. I grew up in Aberystwyth, but left the area about 12 years ago. There is a point when traveling back - whether by rail (going through Bow St) or road (around Ponterwyd), where I always have that feeling of 'being home'. Wales has a pride that I don't really see in many countries. Every Welshie has a longing for the Land of Their Fathers, so to speak, and today I was trying to explain to someone why St.David's Day was really cool - and I got tears in my eyes. I don't know why. Maybe it is the hills, the coastline, the leeks and the daffys, the language of heaven, the rain, the singing, the rugby team which is great in my eyes - even when they aren't, the coolest flag in the world, the passionate complaining of a local, or just the knowledge that there aren't really that many of us and we all want to maintain our identity, our history, legends and culture... and to quote Catatonia - 'every morning, when I wake up, I thank the Lord I'm Welsh'.

I went to Aber to make a summer course in the University of Wales and I can say it is one of the most incredible places of the world. There was nothing I didn't like: the beach is wonderful, the town is cosmopolitan and the people are so nice.I really felt at home while staying there. I met lots of people who are now my friends. I was born in Aber as my father was posted there at the North Road Hospital just before the war. He was in the Home Guard and solved an epidemic caused by an ice cream seller on the prom during the war. We moved to England in 1957 but I have never forgotten Aber. Recently I took my family back to see the house where I was born in Penparcau. Not too much had changed, and some neighbours even remembered my parents, who are sadly dead now. It all seems long ago, but whenever I walk on Pen Dinas, as I have over the years, it all comes back to me. Hiraeth, I suppose.

Everytime I visit Aber I just get bored. There's not as much to do there as people seem to think and when the weather's bad it is just very boring. The shops are great - the only thing that is to do! The night life doesn't compare with anywhere else - it's ok but pretty dull. The university keeps the town alive. The people are lovely but there obviously aren't enough of them to open some larger places or activities for people to do.

I fell in love with Aber sittin on the prom on the uni open day. It is the most amazing place- not so much the city that never sleeps, but the town with a constant hangover! The atmosphere is great, the people are great and the shopping is pretty good! Aber, one of the few places that can hand on heart call itself bi-lingual. I love Aber and wouldn't want to spend three years studying and partying anywhere else. Anyone who doesn't love Aber has never been!!! In the words of Malcolm Price, Aberystwyth, Mon Amour!

Was told that Aber wasn't a very lively place and that the students had to make their own entertainment-how wrong are they! This place buzzes and even though I keep getting noticed for my mild scouse accent, it really doesnt bother me. I keep thinking of town as a squished version of Chester because the shops aren't that bad in honesty. And the prom with motorbikes lined up by the cafe..what more could a biker student ask for.

I've just started uni here in Aber and already I feel completely and utterly at home. I'm busier than I've ever been but it's a more relaxed busy than in Cardiff, there's no real pressure. The people are incredible- I've already made some of my closest friends ever. The atmosphere is electric and there's always somthing interesting to do, whether it's going to the Union for one of their theme nights or just having a few drinks with friends, it's never boring as I was previously led to believe! There are some things I miss about Cardiff- being close to my boyfriend and my family- but that aside I would be loathe to leave Aberystwyth. I've seen few places so vibrant and so beautiful. I made the right choice in wanting to study here.

After several years away I have recently come back to Aberystwyth and brought my family with me. For my sons, moving from an English city to a small Welsh town could have been such a shock, but the friendliness with which they and we have been greeted teamed with the safety, security and relaxed happy atmosphere of the town made it so easy for us all. Forget the stress and strain of the big town - Aber is the place to be for those seeking quality of life! I'll never leave again.

I followed a summer course at the University College of Wales in Aberystwyth when I was only 16. I have wonderful memories of the time spent there, and I clearly remember that once I was back home, I cried for long time, since I missed my Welsh friends. I only spent a month there, but it was enough time for making me love Aberystwyth like no other place. It’s something magic. It's an inspiring place and could be my ideal place where to live permanently: ocean and hills, exciting social life, warm and friendly atmosphere and excellent facilities for students’ and artists' life. Now I go! t married and hope to let my husband, fond of sailing, discover the stunning Welsh coastline.

Aber is very dear to me as I had so many relatives living there. I spent most of my holidays with my Grandparents (dadcu was a very senior police officer) who lived in Trevor Road. I remember the Kings Hall with all its attractions. I go back every year and walk the prom, up North Road, Trevor Rd to see my grandparents house, to the golf course via the what was the old monastry. My heart aches for the cinemas, and the pancakes which Mam used to bring down to the beach. Will be back in August with my Mother to charge up the memories which I know will never leave me.

I went to uni in Aberystwyth between 2000 and 2003 and loved the place. There's no place like it, from the castle to the prom from the bay to the glen you can't beat it. I loved it so much I went back for a year to do my masters. I religiously go back every year for the rugby sevens and my girlfriend (who I met in Aber) and I are seriously considering moving down there on a permanant basis. You can't help it. Me and my dad travelled around a bit last summer and also stopped in aber for some time. Maybe it was only a coincidence but every time we went there the sun was shining and made me totally fall for this great city: the beach, the shops, and still Welsh speaking people (which you do not find as often in Brecon e.g.). What can one say other than "wow, what a great city".

I lived at the bottom of constitution hill for two years - in front of the derilict halls with the mad french squatter that used to scream french obsenities during the middle of the night - 2 minutes up the road was the cosy Commodore cinema and numerous comfortable guest houses. A real juxtaposition! I still smile about the french madman. Very bizarre - i miss Aber and it's people every day...

Aberystwyth is a fab place to be. Moved away couple of times just like a lot of people have and came back. Now if I go away for a weekend, I'm homesick within a matter of hours and and feel like that until I'm back home.

I lived in Aber for four years, and thought it was wicked. It gets odd and dark at times, but it's good underneath. It's full of nut-jobs and boozers, but I miss it like anything. If I could afford not to live at home, I would be back in a shot.

What a fantastic place!
Myself and a group of mates were a bit worried how the locals would take to us when we worked down there over the past few months.
But I must say we had a fantastic time and were made to feel very welcome indeed and had some great times in the pubs.
The best time was convincing the locals that we were in fact Welsh as everyone thought we were from liverpool.
We gave them a perfect rendition of 'Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau' at last orders (can't remember which pub now!), with the locals breaking out into spontaneous applause at the end!
We'll be back - thanks once again for making us 'east gogs' so welcome!!

I just want to tell everyine that I love it here. I know that sounds really corny, but it is true. I grew up for 19 years in Wiltshire and since I have moved here, I have felt so settled and accepted. We had our first son here last Feb (valentines day) and I am looking forward to watching him grow up by the beach, and enjoying the open countryside, with friendly locals.

I moved to Aber in 1993 and spent 7 (mostly!) fantastic years there. Aber had some of the best free party's back in those days!!!

Ah how I miss the town, the pubs mainly. Had to watch Wales win the Grand Slam at an Irish pub in Chicago and met two lads from Aber, unreal! Big up Steve and Wayne who helped me celebrate, and the tafia who are doing a great job over here for all us expats. Will have to visit Aber again soon in the near future. If Steve and Wayne read this, will have a pint in the nags!!!

My father comes from this area, and every year returned to spend Summer holidays here. We used to spend many a long day on the beach and go to all the sites. I am proud to say that the mayor John James is my cousin.

I've just graduated from Aber and I'm missing it already. The town has a certain charm which just makes those who've lived there fall in love with it - me included. I'll definitely be back regularly to visit my favorite pubs and restaurants, lie on the soft dunes of Ynyslas, have barbeques on the beach, and witness some more of those amazing sunsets... Oh the memories! Malcom Pryce had it just right - Aberystwyth, Mon Amour. X

Came here as a student, and just graduated - sad in a way, 'cos it means my time here has come to an end! It has to be the best place in the world to be at uni - great town, views r the best, and the close student community is the best. Wish I could go back to my first year...

I love Aber because it is near to the beach. I love the ice-cream stall because all the ice-cream flavours are different to all the ones in Machynlleth (where I live). I like to go in the sea for a swim - when you are in Mach you have to travel 18 miles to get to the sea.

Born and bred in Aber, can't wait until I retire (another 30 years) so I can move back home. Go home to Aber every 6 weeks to visit my Dad and all my friends. It breaks my heart every time I leave. As everyone says you, Aber's a magnet always drawing you back.

Aber has got to be the best place in Wales!! I went there several times while I was a distance ed student at the UWA. The people are fantastic, the atmosphere is awesome and the food is great!! I really miss the place and I always had a tear when I had to catch the train back to the airport.
I graduated with distinction and part of Aber will always be in my heart. I also have to say that the Harry's Bed and Breakfast has to be the BEST B&B in Aber.
I miss the sea!!

I have allways called Aber 'The Big MAGNET!' You can never get away. Even if you do you end up coming back. Some people know why others don't! Aber is a one off! Why? Because it's so chilled.....

I was born in Aber and moved away as a boy. Nothing beats the feeling I get when I come home to Aber to visit my family. I instantly feel at home as I drive down the hill towards the harbour. I wish I could move back but my wife and kids are Derby born & bred so won't let me.

Thank you S A Brain..you've made me so so happy. I spent the best years of my life here anyway and now I have so many more to look forward to.

Born and bred in Aber and the one thing I can never fathom is why so many cafes? I know as a teenager on a rainy saturday afternoon there was nothing better to do than go on a 'coffee crawl', but how they all survive is beyond me. Not complaining mind as it engenders the great community spirit which with the fresh air, beautiful countryside and down-to-earth folk make it a great place to be. I shall return.

I guess everyone has fond memories of the place. I lived there for six years and they were totally enjoyable, the place has a magical quality and it never ceases to impress. Such an influx of different people enter the town it seldom gets stale.
All in all I miss the walks on the seafront, having a beer outside the Glen on a hot summer's day or relaxing with a game on the green baize whilst having such scenary around.
P.S. Can anyone remember Phill, the hall's security guard on the seafront with the spike hair?!

Have lived in Aber all my life. Whenever I have found myself elsewhere, I just want to come back. The town has a friendliness about it that you don't see anywhere else. If I walk down the High Street it is guaranteed that I will see at least 5 of my friends.

I left Aber in 1998 after my degree and I have such fond memories of the place. I too met friends for life there and have been back to visit many times. I took my husband there just over a year ago and he too was drawn to its easy-going, friendy, safe atmosphere. We'll visit for many years to come no doubt. If you want a real nostalgia trip get hold of the Malcolm Pryce novels such as Aberystwyth Mon Amour... a cracking read and hilarious if you know Aber well.

I was born and bred in Aberystwyth. Then I joined the Army, and have been in for six years now. I have travelled wide and far and can honestly say nowhere I have been is quite like Aber.
The support I have had from the local people has been great, especially whilst I was on operation in the Gulf last year. They rallied around putting together moral boxes for the troops, which cheered us up no end.

What I love about Aber has got to be The Angel Pub Inn. A great place to be. When you are feeling down. You will be greeted by so many people and made to feel welcome. A great pub for passing tourists and for mad women.

We love Aber. We stayed at the Marine as normal this last weekend and the seas were tremendous. We went to loads of pubs and also the Penguin Cafe where I met an old friend that I hadn't seen for 20 years completely by chance. We had a great 3 days there and Eleri got soaked by a wave as we were on our way to the Inn on the Pier Friday night. We also went to Downies, Pier Hotel, Llew Du, Weatherspoons, Castle and the Nags. We can't wait to get back there. (We also walked loads!!).

I spent three wonderful years in Aber, met my wife to be too. I remember watching porpoises in the bay as I washed the dishes in my rootop bedsit on the seafront. Could never get enough of the great mountain biking and walking either - these were serious distractions to studies. We both go back with our 3 children as often as we can.

i've always loved it here and although i've only spent the first semseter of the first year there, i love it so much! the people are amazing, you are guarenteed to meet someone you know whilst walking around, wherever you are! its so easy to make friends here as everyone is so laid back and friendly. i love 'the prom' and spending many hours sitting on the beach. my advice to anyone who hasnt visited it yet, do so! as you will love it the moment you arrive!

Seaside for me was always Aber from the time I could toddle with a bucket and spade until I went to work abroad. So of course we took my son also and he delved into the rock pools and spilt streams of pebbles from his bucket - or we looked out for Viking longboats or King Arthur from the castle... icecreams at The Penguin cafe, fish and chips when the evening chill came down.. then back via the old road to Rhayader. I LOVE Aber.

I came here to Uni in 1998 and I'm still here. I graduated and graduated again found a job and a local girl and stayed. The pace of life is chilled and the summers are great who needs the hustle and bustle of city life.
The only problem, the housing market is so wacky, don't expect to be able to buy unless you're a millionaire.

Already im wishing i could have stayed just that extra bit longer. I have just visited friends in Aber and now that i am back in the Big Smoke, i've realised just how great Aber is. It such a close nit place and has some stunning views of the bay and surrounding area. I especially thought that 'Consti' looked amazing lit up at night. I hope to go back there very soon and experience it all again, hopefully for a longer period. My friends are so lucky to be studying down there. I hope to do the same next year if things go to plan. See you soon Aber!!

ahhhhhh jumpers for goal posts, red sky at night, crimson sunsets, playin the slot machines when it was really a proper pier, to the sounds of 'hey mr tambourine man' (very dubious lyrics) but we were 2 young 2 care, listening to the constant shout of 'motor boat' for Pride of the Midlands bay trips, melting lollipops from the kiosk with the grumpy man, the occasional drunk pedestrian, 'Sinatra' at the football match in full 'London Palladium' mode, Captain Baden with the seafarers sway, was it the whisky or the rough seas? Aber's had its characters and many will know who I mean. Some will think I'm meandering throught the streets of nostalgia and why not? It wuz all gud stuff and gr8 fun... Do I miss it? No, we live in the present not the past don't we...?

this place is firmly embedded in my heart now...i dont think it will ever get out of my system. ive been here for four years through a lot of heartache, but a huge amount of joy. what could be better than coming to study in such a beautiful place, so unspoiled by the hustle of 21st century life, even with all the students! there isnt anywhere else id rather have studied, and im so lucky that i have had the opportunity to come back for my postgrad. i dont think il ever be ready to leave, and will most certainly be tottering down the prom when im older and (hopefully) wiser!!

Having been brought up in Paris, I often get asked by disbelieving people. 'Why did you leave Paris for Aberystwyth?'
There's no easy response to that question but the fact that I have been unable to leave Aberystwyth six months after having graduate does go to show that this town is irresistible. I could delve at length into all the idiosyncracies which make this place lovable but it would be pointless. Come here, all ye innocent souls who have not yet experienced our town and treasure your own miraculous memories of Aberystwythianism.

The welshness of Aber adds a kind of cudos for 'outsiders' that makes them want to belong to a small society with its roots deeply embedded in the Victorian chapel culture. In reality outsiders are seldom truly accepted by the indigenous population, due to a seige mentality probably brought about Aber's historic remoteness by all forms of transport. No one (with any decision making power) seems to regard Aber as in any way so important that the transport infrastructure should be radically improved to bring Aber up to speed with its surroundings in the competitive economic world, which indeed would cause the town to lose its conservative rural charm. Maybe there's a conspiracy to preserve Aber's 'persona' by attracting visitors who will like the quiet life and talk up the social demons created by urbanisation. How long can Aber remain an oasis in a chaotic world...long enough we hope for all us expats to consider whether indeed we could readjust to 'Shangri La' in the way that so many spellbound visitors can.. Why are the property prices so high... there are no substantial amenities for the people to enjoy..........tbc

I can't help but get homesick when I read this site! Am just starting my third year at Cardiff uni and have been working down here in 'the big smoke' (as my parents call it!) during the holidays. I try and get back as often as possible to see everyone and have a rest from city life (and city prices!). One thing I really miss is friday and saturday nights in the Bay every week and lunches at the arts centre every day when I was in Penglais sixth form.

I went to Aber in 1991 to study at the University. I met my husband there, got married there and had my first baby there. Then we had to move away due to my husband's change of job. We visit regularly and I would love to move back some day. We have just taken our three children to Aber for a week's holiday and they all had a great time. We spent a lot of time on the lovely sandy Ynyslas beach. The children also loved Aberystwyth Castle and the ride up to Constitution Hill. They love Aber too!

I adore Aber. I hope to live there one day, as I have always felt at home there. And on the car in the way up I always feel exited and anxious to see something new and exiting there. Its a beautifull place, situated right next to the sea, but it really isn't one of those "hectic seaside resorts" it's a laid back place, with a lot to offer on the music, art and educational side of life. You can go there to chill out and relax on the beautifull promenade, slouching in a 1950's stripy deck chair with a huge 2 scoop vanilla ice-cream. Or to sit in one of the numerous up-to-date cafes with your friend, you can even rummage around in their numerous vintage and exclusive boutiques and venture home with a one-off treasure!! And in the night its a whole different story, it's the same charming and nautical place, but with a few neon lights and numerous types of music thrown in for good measure! The cinema, cafes, uni, pubs, amusements and clubs all look somewhat charming against the "vintage" coastline and countryside roots. It really is a gorgeous place, day, or night and I really do LOVE ABER!

Since my mother moved to Aberystwyth, my partner and I have made regular trips to the area and the first time we visited it just felt like we'd come home - it has a really special charm about it. My mother has since moved to Pontrhydfendigaid (about 13 miles away) and every time we visit her now Aber feels like a magnet drawing us closer in. We can't visit her now without spending some quality time on the beach watching the world go by, hiring Kayaks from Stormriders, doing cliff walks to Borth or just browsing around the shops. I love the place so so much and it just holds something so magical about it. My dream is for us to move there in the future (sooner rather than later).

I've been photographing the prom for the last 25 years - and hardly a day goes by when i don't find something new to record. I love the prom so much that we had our wedding reception in the open air above Cor y Castell last June (our first anniversary comes up on the 7th...). It was brilliant - and then we finished the day off with a barbecue on south beach. Perfect!!

We visited Aberystwyth on our honeymoon 33 years ago, it was pouring with rain and we didn't stop. Little realising that years later we would have our eldest son working in Aber, marrying and having grandchildren living there.
So we are now regular visitors, not as regular as we would like, considering the long drive, but love having a Welsh daughter-in-law and Welsh grandchildren.
AND amazingly enough most of the time we visit Aber the sun shines! Hubby loves the Crazy Golf, and I love the shops. Especially Melanie's Fabrics which has just moved out to Capel Bangor. Lots of lovely quilting fabric which I stock up on when I visit.
Ofcourse no visit would be complete without a trip on the Cliff Railway to the top of Constitution Hill, and a trip out to Ynyslas.

Kit Lane, Aberystwyth
I have lived in Aberystwyth since arriving to do my degree in 1998. Soon I have to leave, and I know I will miss the place terribly. Aberystwyth isn't so much the place as the people and attitudes. It manages to be Welsh without being exclusive, it manages to be homely without being smothering. Most of all it manages to welcome two thousand new people each year to take a little piece of it into their lives. I for one thank it for that.

What can I say, for me Aberystywth is possibly the most ideal place to study my degree. How many other university students have spend their first year in student accomodation with a sea view and can spend all summer term on the beach whilst sunbathing. Ok so the shops are slightly limited and its a little isolated if you want an Asda or pizza hut but its got so much to enjoy i'm sure i'll be coming back here long after my degree is over.

As a very wise friend of mine once said - you can find the road into Aber, but you'll never find the road out!!! And I don't mean that in a bad way!!! I was born and bred here, been away a couple of times but always come back!!! There's nothing like walking around a pub on a Saturday night and knowing nearly everyone in there!!! You'll never find that in a city!

Brought up in suburban London, Aberystwyth is a great alternative to the hectic city life.
One can truly relax in Aber and enjoy the pace of life here.
Even though I am in my final 'hectic' year, I am comforted that the views are spectacular every day.
There are so many restaurants around town that a student can enjoy at a good price.
There are also many churches around town, where one can grow spiritually too.
I have no regrets about choosing to study here. It has been a great few years.

Aberystwyth has a lot going for it (if you can afford to retire there)! There is much natural beauty but I feel many over 'romanticise' about the town due to it's isolation and the lack of social problems, common in many of our towns and cities in the Uk. It's a 'safe' place, always has been, but I wish the romantics would venture beyond the allure of 'safe' Aber and discover so many more beautiful places the in Uk.

I went to Aber University in 1966 and basically have never been away. At University, I lived at Pantycelyn Hall and I have just finished my second period at Pantycelyn - this time as Warden. People say - why didn't you move away to get an experience of somewhere else and I say - why? Every time I come drive down Penglais hill, I know why I've never gone away. The things that matter are still there - the Cabin, Penguin, Caffi Morgan (yes, OK and the National Library and Old College) even the donkeys. And of course, those perfect sunsets. This shows perhaps the most important thing about Aberystwyth - it has changed, but not too much. Too much change would make it like all the other faceless towns in Britain.

Suzy Shipman from Aberystwyth
"Weirdly, I knew that Aberystwyth was the place for me when I saw a stand about it at a Universities Fair type thing. There were stands about Universities throughout the UK, but this was the one that struck me.
I can't put a finger on what it was about Aber, but I just had to come here. I waited nervously for my A-level results and thankfully got in. I arrived to start my degree in September 1991 ... now it's July 2003 and I'm still here!
It's a beautiful small town, and living by the seaside is great! I'm now married to a man who studied here, and also lived here since he was 9. We have 2 children, and can't see ourselves ever leaving. If for some reason we had to - I'm sure we'd be back - it's some kind of magnetic pull back to Aber.
I was born in Bristol, but have never been a city girl. Aber feels like home".
