Meet the Sabbs...

Meet the team of six 'Sabbs' who run Aberystwyth's Guild of Students. All six were elected as officers in March 2005 and are usually sabbatical, paid, students taking a year out of their studies to run their local students' union.

"My specific role as president is team-leader for the rest of the Sabbs, and to co-ordinate the work of the Exec as a whole. I chair all the Guild meetings, taking particular responsibility for the General Meeting and special events. I represent the Guild to the university on various different committees and in regular meetings with the vice chancellor and other senior staff. I also represent the Guild to outside bodies such as NUS, and have special responsibility for our trading activities-the bars and shops. Officially head of the organisation, I am the only person authorised to speak to the media on behalf of the Guild, and so spend a lot of my time writing press releases and speaking to journalists. I am really proud to have been elected as this year's president, and promise to give you my best for the entire time - so if there's anything you need, give me a shout!"
Bec Corn, Guild President
