Castell Rock 2007

Castell Rock 2007

Last updated: 06 August 2007

After a break in 2006 an annual rock music event at Aberystwyth Castle was renewed in 2007. Rosemary Rhys of the Castell Rock committee explained more about the festival.

  • "Castell Rock returned on Saturday 4 August 2007 after a gap year in 2006. Set in the perfect location of Aberystwyth Castle, overlooking Cardigan Bay, Castell Rock provides a family-friendly festival, featuring non-stop live music and children's activities.

If this wasn't enough the festival was free. Watching the sun set over the sea, behind the Castell Rock stage, to the sounds of great music, is an experience not to be missed.

An exciting line emerged with Crimea, The Heights, Genod Droog, The Poppies and Radio Luxembourg playing.

The CrimeaThis year Castell Rock worked with charity Air Ambulance Wales to raise money. The show started at Midday and ended when the sun went down, squeezing in as many bands as possible with quick-change overs.

Due to the large number of bands asking to play at Castell Rock, this year the organisers came up with an exciting Battle of the Bands competition to choose the opening acts for Castle Rock.

The Battle of the Bands took place on Saturday 14 July at the Aberystwyth Bandstand. Three bands were chosen from the Battle of the Bands night - they are local bands 'The Winchester 4', 'Stone Free' and 'On Arrival'.

The winning bands had an opportunity to play on the Castell Rock stage in Aberystwyth Castle grounds on Saturday 4 August along with many of Wales' leading rock bands."

My band (MAIVE) played in 2007 and it was a great experience. One of the most organised festivals weve ever played with a heep load of great bands. Hopefully it will get bigger and better in the next few years. Congratulations to all involved!
