Aber Rag 2007

Aimee Ellis

Last updated: 05 April 2007

Every year, Aberystwyth University students hold a week of fund-raising activities for various charities. The 2007 chair Aimee Ellis got in touch with details of the line-up for this year's money-making antics:

  • Your Aber rag pictures...

  • "RAG stands for Raise and Give and is the student based fundraising society.

Since the 1920s RAG aber RAG has been working within Aberystwyth and raising money for many causes locally, nationally and globally. We do this all year round but the highlight of the RAG calendar is RAG week - a week dedicated to raising money for different charities throughout the week!

This year RAG week will be held between 19th and 25th March. We will be active in town and on campus and have many stunts and events planned. You will probably see us dressed up, running around and begging for your pennies!

    Monday - Film Night.

    Tuesday - Party in Town.

Wednesday - Doctors and Nurses @ Reload.

Thursday - Party in the Union.

    Friday - Cashback for Charity.

    Saturday - Collecting in town.

Sunday - To end RAG week with a bang we will be going back to the old style RAG days and holding the parade through town. This will begin at the castle and end at the bandstand where we will hear words from Elin Jones AM, Ben Gray (SU President) and the Mayor of Aberystwyth. The bandstand will also play host to a number of activities for young and old!

During the week we will also be holding a toll gate, a paint orgy as well as collecting everywhere and anywhere. Please give genorously and get in the RAG spirit to make this the best RAG week yet!

Look out for more details on this and all RAG week related activities nearer the time. For more information please contact RAG at union.rag@aber.ac.uk or we can be found in the students union using the details below.

I'm the New Elected Station Manager and i got Bay-Radio invovled with Rag week as it's such a good event! Bay-Radio raised money by getting students in the Union to donate a pound and in return they got to rip a wax strip of male members of bay-radio! We had lots of fun and hopefully we raised rather a bit of money for RAG!Will Definitely be invovled next year!Thank you to Simon, Jac and Wich who donated they're legs and are now hair free.

As this years Mayor, I was very pleased to be asked to take part in the town parade on the Saturday. Good news for the "town & gown" and Bronglais hospital. Let us get back to the days of real ragweeks, the whole town used to buzz.
