Yes i used to live in Ynyswen,and worked in the Perrychain,(snake pit)started from school 1958,then i went to work in Abercrave colliery,the shop next to the church hall has been closed for ages,but i do remember it well,abercrave has not changed much, but most people living there are complete strangers

Are you the same Battenboughs from Ynyswen or from Ystalyfera I worked with at the Perrychain in Caerbont I also remember going to Sunday school at the church hall there was a little sweet shop next door where I used to get aniseed balls to eat there maybe I will hear from you

My grandfather, John Owen, was born in Penwyllt in 1904. I think there are Morgan's on the maternal side. Does anyone remember the families?

I was born in Abercrave and lived there until I moved to Canada in 1973. Lived there again in the eighties. When there my children went to the Primary School and have great memories of being there. Love to the Giant.

My Great grandfather, Tom Ellis was the Manager at Penwyllt Quarry or brickworks back in the begining of the 20th century. Tom Ellis lived in Sennybridge and later in Swansea in the mayals and then St Helens rd any one have information on workers at penwyllt at this time?

To Alan Doyle,My father Jim Jones and my Auntie Ciss were born in Patti Cottages,Penwyllt.I and brother Alun stayed with our auntie Ciss often before she moved to live with us in Sennybridge in 1958.I remember you and your sister Sheila and actually have photos of us by the old water-pump - playing cricket.

My mother's auntie Megan Jones and Thomas Jones lived at riverside cottage and my aunty Brenda lives in Llantwit Major, my great aunty Meg died in 1994 and i was a coffin bearer at her funeral, my uncle John Williams lives in Cardiff with my aunty Colwen and their 2 children .....

For Jan Pratt West Wales.I was born in Penwyllt and lived there for 10 years before moving to Coelbren. I knew your uncle Harry Wagg and his wife Rachel who lived at No 1 Pattis Cottages. Many fond memories of a once thriving and happy village.

I grew up in Glyntawe. Abercraf was one of the places to be on a Saturday night. Interested to see mentions of Penwyllt history. Does anybody know the history of the Brickworks, its rail lines and quarries?

I grew up in Abercrave and my mum still lives there. I have lived in Canada for 30 years but I still call Abercrave home. It was an amazing place to grow up, beautiful, safe and carefully watched over by the giant himself!!!.

I now live in Abercraf, dead opposite the chapel next to Margaret, I moved there 3 years ago and love it. For my sins I am a Swansea Jack, or more precice a Morriston Monkey(proud too) but I am doing my best to settle in and be accepted....so far so good! I am after a picture...for a small fee, of 'the sleeping giant'. Can you help? would you know of the artist of the paintings in the Inn?

Patrick Hall, Abercrave
I've lived here 3 years and it feels like home. Penwyllt is mentioned a few times here. Brick row is long gone, but Powell Street, including the Mission Hall at Number 9, is thriving as the HQ of the South Wales Caving Club. The Penwyllt Inn, usually known as The Stump, still stands but it is currently empty.

Brian Battenbough
I used to go to this church hall as a youngster. This was the place to go for Sunday school where we used to sit in a circle with the teacher for i think an hour or so she told us stories from the bible and asked questions to see if we were paying attention.

My uncle harold Wagg and his wife Rachel lived in Penwllyt for a long time. Rachels parents kept the Penwyllt Pub...her parents were Daniel and Ann Davies. Does anyone remember them?

My grandfather worked in the colliery at Abercraf, along with his father, until he was killed in an accident in 1934. Does anyone have a photo of the colliery that I can add to my family history records please?

Ron Morgan
I used to visit my Great Aunt Dolly in Abercraf, she had moved there from Penwyllt, where my dad Dennis Morgan was born in 1930. Penwyllt is a place close to our family's heart as my Grandfather Tom Morgan was the preacher at the Mission hall there and our family lived at 3 Brick Row Penwyllt! Many happy memories for my father here.
