Round Wales in a dinghy
Last updated: 27 June 2007
As part of the Aberaeron bi-centenary celebrations the 17ft dinghy 'EOS' - built in Ciliau Aeron - will be attempting to 'circumnavigate' mainland Wales and 'fly the flag' for Aberaeron. One of the two-man crew, Aberaeron harbourmaster, Nigel Wells wrote about the attempt in June 2007.
Pictures of the circumnavigation...
"Decorated in the bi-centenary colours and logo Eos is crewed by myself and Newquay Harbourmaster Roy Fenner.
We will be following in the footsteps and hoping to emulate the achievement of Aberaeron sailors Peter Lloyd Harvey and the late David Sinnett-Jones who successfully 'circumnavigated' in 1990.
Weather permitting we hope to leave Aberaeron on Saturday 2 June.
The voyage will take us through Bardsey Sound to Caernarfon, through the Menai Straits to Colwyn Bay and up the Dee Estuary to Chester.
From there we will follow the Shropshire Union Canal then the Staffs and Worcester Canal to Stourport then into the River Severn to Sharpness.
Back into salt water, sailing under both Severn Bridges we will head for home via Barry, Swansea, Tenby, Jack Sound, Ramsey Sound and Fishguard arriving in Aberaeron, hopefully, about three weeks after leaving.

We have relatives who have lived for Aberaeron for many years, we visit regularly and it is a truly beautiful place. Well done to Nigel and Ray, a great effort!

We met up with the crew whilst on our narrowboat 'Dragonfly' while EOS was moored on the Shropshire Union Canal in Wheaton Aston. Good luck Nigel and Ray - we hope you made it!
