'Aberayron' Ribbons

Stuart Evans outside the BBC Wales Bus

Last updated: 25 July 2006

Stuart Evans from Aberaeron visited the BBC Bus in Aberaeron in October 2005 in search of more information about an unsusual find, a pair of Aberaeron football club ribbons.

"I've been an Aberaeron resident since I was six months old. I found this pair of Aberaeron Football Club ribbons when I was clearing out my late mother's house.

Aberayron Football Ribbons I knew the ribbons were old because they feature the old spelling of the town, 'Aberayron'. I don't know if the family had any links with the club. I played for the club once or twice in my youth.

I'd love to find out some more about the ribbons and why they were made."

If you can offer any information as to the purpose of Stuart's football ribbons, please email us at wales.mid@bbc.co.uk and we'll add your comments to the page.

I have come across an old photo of Aberaeron Junior Football Club when we (I say we because I was a member of that team) won the Aber and Dist Junior Cup in 1951/52. In those days they did not give out medals instead you had your photo taken with and without the cup. How nice it would be if after 56 years the team could be reunited. Please contact the current officials of the club. I wonder how many of the team are still with us.

My great grandfather, Thomas Morgan Evans, was from Aberayron. We have a booklet of photos of Aberayron from the 1890s and there is a mysterious photo of a football team which no one now living can figure out.
