"The Aberaeron stud breeds & shows Welsh Cobs and Welsh sport horses. Alun Evans 'Registrar', venerable equestrian and also my grandfather, had the ambition to breed horses with quality, temperament and talent.
Having kept horses all his life as his forefathers had done before him, it wasn't until 1964 that he officially registered the Aberaeron Stud. Thus the name of every horse the stud bred, would start with 'Aberaeron'.
Alun married Annie - my grandmother in 1937. He became a social worker and Registrar and 'married' almost everyone in the Aberaeron area!
They had 3 children Rheinallt, Geraint, and Emyr, also known as Nipper, Champ and Nobby. Many Aberaeron residents will remember Alun 'Registrar' driving his horses around the streets in a traditional governess cart. Some may even remember riding various Aberaeron horses!
Nobby, my father carried on the family tradition, with his infectious, effervescent passion for the Welsh Cob. Marrying Anne in 1967 they had two sons, Carwyn & me - Gary.
Nobby's passion for the breed has been displayed on showgrounds all over the UK, culminating in prizes at both the Royal Welsh and Royal Show - England.

His favourite show horse was 'Aberaeron Coeswen Ddu' , a tenacious little black mare, who at 34 still struts her stuff like a superstar.
In 2002, I realised a dream by buying a small holding called 'Penlanogle' in the Aeron valley. Thanks to Carwyn I now have 6 five star stables, decent fences and an enthusiastic riding partner.
Every Aberaeron horse is special and some have achieved fame in Welsh Cob history, including: Aberaeron Coeswen Ddu, Aberaeron Almaenwr (exported to Germany), Aberaeron Idris, Aberaeron Arbenigwr (exported to Belgium), Aberaeron Matador and Aberaeron Cariad Kentucky.

But perhaps the most famous of all Aberaeron horses are the ones who put us on the 'performance horse' map - Aberaeron Prince and Aberaeron Telynor Ap Tywysog owned by Liz Wilkinson and Niki Brewer respectively.
These horses, and their hard working owners have meant that Aberaeron horses are synonymous, not just with competing at eventing (dressage, cross country and show jumping) but WINNING - fulfilling my grandfather's ambition from all those years ago - quality, temperament and talent.
Having built up a reputation over the last 43 years Aberaeron horses are very much in demand as this years crop of super foals has proven. With 4 mares in foal we wait in anticipation of more extraordinary Aberaeron horses next year."
