Kevin James

Kevin James Welsh International bowler and British Isles Outdoor Bowls singles champion in 2007.

Biography:
Welsh internationl bowler and Welsh singles champion Kevin James took the British isles singles crown in July 2007, only the seventh Welshman ever to win the title.

"Kevin started playing bowls in 1994 at the age of 10 at Cardigan bowling club.

By the time he was 12 he had been picked to represent Cardiganshire county (now Ceredigion county).

From then on the honnors kept comming, winning Cardiganshire County Bowling Association under 18 singles - 1998,99,2001, under 25 singles - 1998,99,2001,02,03,06, open singles - 2006, pairs - 1999, triples - 2002 and fours - 2006.

In 2002 Kevin was picked to play for the Welsh junior international team at the position of skip. That year Wales were victorious and won the British Isles series.

Kevin has played for the Welsh under 25 team from 2002 and in December 2004 Kevin was selected to play for Wales in a test match againt Spain in Spain and wales won 12-4.

In 2006 for the first time Kevin had qualified for the Welsh national finals at Llandrindod Wells in the open singles event which he won the final 21-7(aged 22).

This meant he would be representing Wales in the British isles bowls council singles competition the following year at Sighthill bowling club in Edinburgh.

When the 2007 season came along Kevin was selected for a trial for the full senior national team and was selected to play lead in a rinked skipped by commonwealth silver medalist, Robert Weale, from Presteigne.

In the semi final of the British Isles singles Kevin played twice British isles singles winner Martin Mchugh and surprisingly won 21-8.

In the final he played Scotsman Billy Mellors and and took the British Isles singles crown with a 21-6 win (aged 23), being only the seventh Welshman ever to win the title.

Kevin, who works as a postman, said:"I am very grateful to Cardigan Bowling club and its members for their fantastic support over the years."

Kevin took Wales to 6th place at the Champion of Champions in Australia.

    He is a terrific bloke who is a good example to all young sportsmen.True professional who is focused on the job in hand. We are so proud of him and wish him well in the champion of champions singles competitiion in Australia. He's our champion regardless of the result. Also congrats on getting married out there

    I have known Kevin since he started bowling and he has always dedicated his spare time to bowls. What he needs now to further his bowls career is a sponsor. He has a very expensive bowls tounament in November 2007 in Australia, when he plays in The World singles Champion of champions.
