David Higgins

David Higgins Multiple British and American rally champion.

Born:
14 NOV 1972
Biography:

Although David competes on rallies and teaches rally driving skills to drivers all over the world, he lives in Trefeglwys where his family operate the Forest Experience Rally School in Carno.

In 2007 David competed in the British and Chinese Rally Championships. In 2007 he won every round of the Chinese championship to claim the teams title for the WY rally team.

He also became the first person to compete in the British championship in a Super 2000 car when he contested four events in a Toyota S2000R before switching to a Group N Subaru Impreza.

David started in motorsport by competing in motorbike trials when he was eight, then he moved on to karting, where he won seven titles against drivers including David Coulthard.

He is still a keen karter today and enjoyes competing when he can fit events in between rallies.

It didn't take long for him to make a name for himself in rallying after that.

After driving for the same team as Richard Burns in the 205 Challenge, he won a works seat with Peugeot in the British Rally Championship where he won the class for them in 1994.

In 2002 David was the SCCA Pro Rally Champion in America and the British Group N champion. After that led to a drive with the factory Mitsubishi team in America in 2003, David won six events, retained his title and helped Mitsubishi take the manufacturer's crown too.

But the locals were proud to reclaim him in 2004 when he returned to Britain for what was supposed to be a one off entry to the opening round of the British Rally Championship.

He won the event so his sponsors encouraged him to complete the season - which he won to become British champion.

David was also a test driver for the Mitsubishi WRC team that year, and helped Ralliart Hong Kong win the teams championship in China.

In 2005 he David used his British championship winning car to win Rallye Sunseeker before switching to the Mitsubishi UK team.

In 2006 David rallied in the UK and China and finished second in Group N on the prestigious Monte Carlo Rally.

Rallying is in David's blood. As well as the rally school being a family affair, his brother Mark has been British rally champion three times and their parents and grandparents have also competed.
