Born in Knighton in 1987, Chaz Davies has been described as a motorcycling prodigy and a sporting star of the future.
Chaz was only three or four years old when he first took an interest in racing. His father Pete - also a motor bike enthusiast - built a go-kart circuit in the back garden for his son.
At the age of seven, Chaz learnt to ride mini bikes and the following year he took part in his first competitive race at the Mini Moto British Junior Championship (7-9yrs).
He had his first taste of success 12 months later when he returned to win the Championship.
Chaz' success in the Mini Moto British Junior Championship 7-12 years category continued and in 1999, he was given the "Superteen of the Year" award.
When Chaz was 12, he was given special dispensation to take part in the Aprilla Challenge 125cc Championship where he finished 6th overall. He was the only rider to finish every race in the points during this Championship and he also set a new lap record at Donnington Park.
In 2001, he became the youngest-ever winner of a British Championship race before breaking another record the following year by becoming the youngest ever full time grand prix entrant in the 125cc World Championship at the age of just 15.
His hard work and efforts saw him featured in the December 29, 2002 edition of The Times Magazine, under its 'Next Big Thing' feature.
During 2003 Chaz stepped-up to the 250cc class and yet again made his mark by becoming one of the youngest-ever competitors in the 250cc GP World Championship and the youngest rider to score points in a 250cc GP race.
Along with fellow pupils at Presteigne's John Beddoes School, Chaz took his GCSEs in the summer of 2003. However, unlike his fellow pupils, Chaz sat his exams in a classroom near the Mugello motor bike circuit in Italy where he was competing in the Italian Grand Prix.
These days when he's competing, Chaz rides an Aprilia motorbike which can do up to 170mp. Off the race track, however, his mode of transport is a moped... he's still too young to ride his bigger bikes on public roads.
The road to success has not always been easy. In 1994, at the age of seven, Chaz suffered a serious accident when his go-kart flipped over. He severed one lung and spent three weeks in a Brimingham hospital.
Chaz rides for the 2003 German Aprillia team but still helps out at his father's training school for bike racers.
