Richard Lewis (Dic) Jones was one of Wales' most distinguished poets who won the National Eisteddfod chair and served as Archdruid.
He was also a well know broadcaster.
Although he was famous throughout Wales his poetry reflected the love he had for south Ceredigion where he farmed at Hendre, near Blaenannerch, near Cardigan.
He was a master of strict-metre verse (Cynghanedd), after being an apprentice bard to Alun Jones, one of the famed farmer-poets of Cilie farm.
He developed his talent as a poet as a young man and won the Urdd National Eisteddfod chair five times.
Dic Jones won the National Eisteddfod of Wales chair at Aberavon in 1966 for his ode 'Y Cynhaeaf' (The Harvest).
In 2007 it was announced he would follow Selwyn Iolen as Archdruid of Wales in 2008.
As Archdruid Dic Jones took the bardic name, Dic Yr Hendre.
He was in charge of the Gorsedd ceremonies at last year's event in Cardiff and had been due to lead Gorsedd ceremonies at this year's eisteddfod in Bala, but was too ill to attend.
Mr Jones was retired from farming the 85 acres (35 hectares) he owned in Ceredigion.
