Film Director
Career:
I worked on 'Grange Hill' at 14 and went to
RADA at twenty three and then Bournemouth Film
School.
Films - 'Valley Girls', 'Mad Cows', 'Very
Annie Mary'.
To
get success:
It's like emptying the seven seas with a coffee
cup. You just keep at it and you don't look
back. You don't expect anything and you hope
for everything! That's what the game has taught
me!
Highlight:
Winning the Sundance International Film Makers
prize and returning back only to find I had
won the Orange Prize! That was on equal joyous
footing with winning the DM Davies prize - the
first time any film I had written/directed was
screened!
Low:
Being pulled from a gala premiere at Sundance
Film Festival because the financiers didn't
think it was best for sales.
Words
of advice:
Mean it! You have to want to do this more than
anything else! You need perseverance, optimism
and obsession.
Worst
job:
Selling ironing pads in Croydon dressed up in
a twee kilt!
Schooldays:
It would take a book to tell you. I have no
exams whatsoever. I have been asked to leave
three schools and now they all ask me back!!!
