|
Footballer,
Blackburn Rovers and Wales
Career:
I
have played for Newport, Cardiff City, Chelsea,
Sheffield United, Bolton and Blackburn. I made
my name with my home town Cardiff, and moved
on to Sheffield United during 93 - 94. At Bolton,
I played a large part in the record-breaking
96 - 97 First Division Championship Season.
Inspiration:
My children, my mother, my oldest brothers,
Jason and Nigel. My family are very important
to me.
How
did all began:
I joined Cardiff and tried really hard to play
well there. Whenever I had the chance to play
in the first team, I tried to excite people
with my play.
Big
break:
Harry Lee taught me to play football. He was
my mentor. Without him, I wouldn’t be where
I am. He would see what you could do with a
ball and work on it. He could have been a professional
as he was a great player.
Career
highlight:
Winning the league with Cardiff City, and winning
the league with Bolton were great highlights.
Also, getting the winning goal against Liverpool
at Anfield in the FA Cup 4th Round for Blackburn
Rovers last year.
Another wonderful moment was scoring the first
goal at the Millennium Stadium for Wales against
Norway in 1994. I have got more than 20 caps for my country.
Worst
time:
When I met Frank Sinclair, who plays for Leicester
- don’t worry, he’s a friend of mine. He’s a
great guy, you’d have to meet him to understand.
Tips
from the top:
Don’t ever give up. Be strong mentally and physically.
Don’t ever let anyone walk over you. Accept
criticism if it’s constructive. Go for it! Go
after what you believe in!
Job
experiences before you were famous:
I didn’t have any - I’ve always loved football,
and always played.
