Singer
Why
music:
I
don’t think loving something is a real decision.
I guess you’re born to love football, mathematics,
singing, whatever. I wanted to spend all my
time singing.
Big break:
Getting NME Single of the Week with Catatonia’s
first release on an independent label. Before
that, Geraint Jarman, a musician and TV programme
maker, gave us a chance to record a song and
make a video for Welsh television.
Highlight:
There have been three highlights - singing in
the CIA with Mr (Tom) Jones, meeting Larry Adler
and talking about Judy Garland and Ella Fitzgerald.
Also, singing with Darren Tyson, a Cardiff singer,
all night long, making harmonies and listening
to his improvising.
Lowlight:
Starting to get 'blanks' on stage - a sort of
stage fright, I guess.
Worst
job:
Washing industrial-sized saucepans in a hotel
kitchen. It was tedious and unending.
School
days:
I’m just glad school’s over. Those that say
schooldays are they best days of your life must
be cuckoo!
