What do Welsh employers want?

The Future Skills Wales project asked over 5,000 employers which skills they thought were going to be more important in the future.

Top ten skills were:

1. Basic IT
2.
Understanding customers’ needs
3. Ability to learn
4. Communication
5. Product knowledge
6. Managing own learning
7. Showing initiative
8. Team working
9. Literacy
10. Problem solving

Develop Skills for Work now by:

  • Going on work experience
  • Doing voluntary work
  • Being a member of a team
  • Using a computer (not just for games!)
  • Taking part in music or drama
  • Getting a part-time job
  • Playing a sport
  • Organising a trip or holiday
  • Being a member of a club
  • Duke of Edinburgh Award or similar
  • Presenting/giving a talk to a group
  • Looking after younger/older friends or members of the family
  • Gaining skills from current part-time job
  • Working hard at school or college!
  • Taking a Key Skills qualification
