House
- Must Have
1.
Know your history
Whichever part of the heritage industry you wish to work in, a
good general knowledge of British history will be essential.
2.
The ability to talk passionately to complete strangers
Communication skills are extremely important, no matter at what
level you operate. The ability to communicate clearly, concisely,
with knowledge and with passion is paramount.
3.
A love of work, not money
Heritage work can have enormous rewards, but money ain’t one of
them. Typical starting salaries are £11,500 - £15,000 depending
on experience and qualifications. Even heads of department will
only earn between £15,000 - £25,000. Still, you could win the
lottery.
