GCE Advanced
Enjoy
school work?
Expecting good GCSE grades?
Want to study further?
Then GCE Advanced could be the choice for you!
Why
choose GCE Advanced?
GCE Advanced is
highly valued by universities. If you're expecting A*, A, B or,in some cases, a C grade at GCSE
and want to go on to university, GCE Advanced are a very
good option.
GCE Advanced: Fact File
- The AS (Advanced Supplementary) would
be the first stage of a GCE Advanced as well as a qualification in its own right. If you want to take a full GCE Advanced, you have to take AS levels first.
- You'll
be able to take more subjects in year 1 - maybe four or
five AS levels. However, the number you take will depend on
how you do in your GCSEs. Your tutors and aareers advisers
can advise you on the expected workload. This means you don't have to narrow down
your choices too early and can try out new subjects.
- The
standard of the AS is between GCSE and the old A level,
to allow you to adjust to higher level work.
- Your
AS level result will contribute towards your final A level
grade.
- You
can carry on with some, possibly three, of your AS subjects
in year 2 to gain a full GCE Advanced.
- This
part of the course is called the A2 and is
as hard as the old A level.
- Your
A2 marks also contribute towards your final GCE Advanced grade
and part of the A2 will assess the whole course. Therefore, AS + A2 = GCE Advanced!
- Both
the AS and A2 are graded E to A. There may also be a A* grade.
