Work experience

Work experience placements are available in virtually every area of the BBC across Wales.

Television Studios and Outside Broadcasts

About the Department

Television Studios and Outside Broadcasts provide technical facilities and staff for studio/OB or PSC productions.

About the placement

A placement with the BBC Wales Studios and OBs can include a placement with the following craft areas: cameras, sound, vision mixers, floor managers, vision operators, engineers, lighting directors, electricians, scenic and rigging operations. We do not provide any hands on work experience due to health and safety and programme requirements, but we are able to offer observation in these areas.

We can offer a day in the News and Current Affairs studio, the Pobol Y Cwm studio, and on the Pobol Y Cwm single camera unit. We are not able to provide time on Outside Broadcasts due to safety restrictions.

Criteria

Age : This placement is targeted at those aged 16 and above.

We're looking for applicants who are really interested in a career in one of these craft areas. They must be familiar with BBC Wales output, particularly Wales Today and BBC 2W and also with Ffeil, Newyddion and Pobol Y Cwm which are transmitted on S4C. You must get on well with others and have excellent communication skills. You must enjoy working in a team, and be very enthusiastic about working here.

We do not accept applicants who's interests are in producing / directing / presenting etc because their needs are best served by visits to production teams.
