Work experience placements are available in virtually every area of the BBC across Wales.

Radio Operations


About the Department

The Radio Operations team is responsible for the operation of radio broadcast equipment in studios and on Outside Broadcasts across the Principality. Our team of 25 Operators provide equipment for all aspects of programme making for Radio Wales, Radio Cymru and all the National networks from Radio 1 to Radio 7! As well as operating equipment for production staff, we also train producers and presenters in the use of broadcast kit.

About the placement

A placement with the BBC Wales Radio Operations team can involve :

  • Completing the BBC's on-line Health & Safety Course
  • Learning about the administration systems required to schedule staff and equipment effectively
  • Attending an Outside Broadcast or location News assignment
  • Observing live and recorded radio programmes being made in studios
  • Assisting with simple operational/admin work under direct supervision

Criteria

We're looking for applicants with a demonstrable interest in the technical aspects of radio and Hi-fi. Enthusiasm for Current Affairs, Sport, Music, or Drama is also very useful. You should have good interpersonal and communication skills, be creative and highly motivated. You need to work well in a team and keen to learn. By coming in on work experience, you'll be joining a very busy team of staff, so you'll need to be willing to 'muck in', help out, and generally make yourself useful.
