Governance and Accountability
About the Department
The Governance and Accountability team is not strictly a part of BBC Wales. This team is a part of the wider Trust Unit team which is mainly based in London. The team in Cardiff look after the BBC Trust's work in Wales. The team serves and supports the Audience Council for Wales which reports to the BBC Trust on the opinions of audiences in Wales about the BBC's services.
The BBC Trust is the sovereign authority of the BBC representing the public interest and overseeing the Corporation's strategic direction. The BBC Royal Charter demands that the BBC Trust consult with the Audience Council for Wales on much of its work. The Audience Council for Wales is chaired by the National Trustee for Wales, who also sits on the BBC Trust.
About the placement
The experience will involve :
- Spending time with the department's staff, learning the way in which the BBC is accountable to the audience in Wales.
- Working with the department's staff to arrange public meetings and other accountability events.
- Organising and supporting the Audience Council's meetings.
- Helping to keep the Audience Council's website up to date and relevant.
- Helping with the Council's press and publicity work.
- Assisting in the recruitment process for Audience Council members.
Criteria
We're looking for applicants with an interest in the relationship which the BBC has with its audiences, and you should have good interpersonal skills, be well organised and have excellent communication skills. You need to be highly motivated, work well in a team, you must be enthusiastic and keen to learn. By coming in on work experience, you'll be joining a small and very busy team of staff, so you'll need to generally make yourself useful.
