The BBC Wales Charity Message for November 2011 was on behalf of Victim Support. There were several Radio features scheduled for the week beginning 21 November 2011 on Radio Wales in English and Radio Cymru in Welsh.
About the Charity
Victim Support is a national charity giving free and confidential help to victims of crime, witnesses, their family, friends and anyone else affected. They also speak out as a national voice for victims and witnesses and campaign for change.
Their services are mainly delivered by trained volunteers with 92% of those working for the charity in Wales are volunteers.
Victim Support gives emotional support, information and practical help to help people affected by crime rebuild their inner strength. They support people after all crimes including homicide, sexual assaults and burglary. They also give support in relation to antisocial behaviour.
They are not a government agency or part of the police and you don't have to report a crime to the police to get their help. You can call them any time after the crime has happened, whether it was yesterday, last week or several years ago, and they run the Witness Service in every criminal court.
Victim Support Cymru ensures that Welsh culture and language are recognised. It also advises on the delivery and development of services across the 22 unitary authorities in Wales.
