The BBC Wales Charity Message for August 2011 was on behalf of BAWSO - Black Association of Women Step Out. There were several television features scheduled across BBC 1 Wales and BBC2 Wales during the week beginning 20 August 2011.
About the Charity
BAWSO is the largest specialist charitable organisation providing support services to Black and Minority Ethnic people experiencing domestic abuse across Wales. The organisation offers a complete package of support provision to help people with complex or multiple needs - including those who have experienced physical, sexual or psychological abuse; forced marriage; honour killings, trafficking and female genital mutilation.
Support by BAWSO includes :
- The provision of refuges and safe houses
- Floating support to help vulnerable people sustain stable tenancies enabling them to live independently and inclusively in the community
- Outreach support for people unable to access refuge for various reasons

Other support services include projects to support people who have been trafficked to the UK, FGM community based health and safeguarding and a young people's project.
BAWSO works with high numbers of well trained interpreters in more than 60 languages to ensure support needs are adequately assessed and covered.
