'Improving lives in Coalfield communities'
The BBC Wales Charity Message for March 2010 was on behalf of the Coal Industry Social Welfare Organisation. There were several Radio features broadcast in the week beginning 15 March 2010 on Radio Wales in English and Radio Cymru in Welsh.
About the charity
The Coal Industry Social Welfare Organisation (CISWO) is a UK wide charity which has a focus on delivering community and personal welfare services within mining and former mining communities.
CISWO offers a free and confidential home visiting service, providing a range of services to former mineworkers and their families including :
- Benefits advice and help
- Bereavement support
- Access to funds for those facing financial hardship
- Support at times of personal difficulty
- Assistance with convalescence and holidays
- Help with independent living
- Information on health and disability issues
CISWO also administers the Court Royal Holiday Home for the South Wales Mining Industry. Situated on the Bournemouth sea front, subsidised holidays are available to both men and women with mining industry links. Court Royal's doors are open all year round.
