About the charity
1 in 30 people in Wales will have a serious mental illness such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder during their lifetime.* Hafal is one of the principal organisations in Wales working with people recovering from serious mental illness, their families and carers.
Every day Hafal provides services to 1000 people affected by serious mental illness across the 22 counties of Wales. Hafal is run by those it supports : people with serious mental illness and their carers and families.
The charity is founded on the belief that people who have direct experience of mental illness know best how services can be delivered. Hafal provides a range of services including employment training, educational and recreational activities, social clubs, housing services, resource centres, breaks for carers, advocacy, befriending, arts projects and family support. Hafal is also a strong campaigning organisation giving clients and carers a national voice on issues such as stigma, patient rights and service delivery.
Hafal intends that this charity broadcast will inform people in Wales that there is a local, user-led, recovery-focused organisation available to help people with serious mental illness and their carers in every county of Wales.
