The BBC Wales Charity Message for May 2012 is on behalf of ABCD Cymru. There will be a broadcast week beginning Monday 21 May 2012 on Radio Wales.
About the Charity
ABCD Cymru aims to help black and minority ethnic families with disabled children to access all available services.
The charity was established 20 years ago by a Cardiff paediatrician who noticed that families from diverse cultural, religious and linguistic backgrounds were not being met.
Now the 4 multi-lingual members of staff help over 300 families through :
- working with them on issues of social care, health and education
- arranging and facilitating referrals to social services, play/leisure providers, housing, employment, training and more
- providing supported and culturally-appropriate play & leisure activities for disabled children and young people
- providing training and resources for professionals from local authorities, healthcare, education and the voluntary sector
