Subject: History
Language: English
Topic: Modern Wales and Britain
School Level: 11-14
Sub-Topic: Rural life
Duration: 1:28

Content Description
Clip from 1964 showing the life of Welsh gypsies as they lived their life then. By that time gipsies were starting to use modern caravans instead of their traditional multi coloured horse drawn wooden ones. This clip shows both ways of life.

Points to note:
Who are the gipsies? Where did they come from? Are they different from today? Why and how have their lifestyles changed since 1964? Why does the commentator describe them as vagabonds? Look at the history of the gipsies through Europe

From Next Place: Jim Phelan first broadcast 03/07/64
