Coedely Colliery came under the control of the Welsh Navigation Steam Coal Company, a subsidiary of David Davis & Sons and consisted of: No2. Rhondda Coal for bunkering and manufacturing, No.3 Rhondda Coal for high class Smith's and coking coal with shipping ports in Cardiff, Barry, Penarth, Port Talbot, Swansea and Newport with the head offices at the Cymric Buildings in West Bute Street, as well as offices in Paris and London.
In 1935 the company opened 30 coke ovens with 263 men working the surface and 570 underground and producing stream, house and manufacturing coals and linked to Cwm Colliery. In 1952 Coedely eventually merged with that colliery in 1958 to make the largest unit in the South Wales Coal Field. The Coedely section of the mine finally closed just after the Miner's Strike in 1985 with Cwm Colliery closing in 1986. Maximum output amounted to 250,000 tons in 1934 with 833 men working at the mine.
