Cefn Coed Colliery

Location:
Near Crynant, Dulais Valley
Sunk:
1921
Closed:
1968

Success by the Swansea based Llwyn-on-Colliery Company Limited encouraged the sinking of this colliery which opened production in 1921. By Nationalisation in 1947, 826 men worked at the colliery and despite an investment of £400,000 manpower gradually decreased until Cefn Coed was closed in April 1968 and is today a Steam and Mining Museum.

"The collieries information contained within is based on a number of different sources listed at: Coalhouse Credits. Wherever possible, we've tried to cross-reference this material. However where it's not been possible to do so, we have used 'The South Wales Coalfield Directory Volumes 1-3' by Ray Lawrence (2005) as the primary source."
