I agree that the only thing that mattered was profit, but in defence of Tim he made it as hard as he could. He also had a mine to run which is still operational and all of the health and safety regulations that entails. He was game enough to take part and do it safely. Perhaps if they wanted a different kind of realism, they could have used Big Pit, but then the mining activity would have been acting and Tim wouldn't have got into the role of Nasty Boss Man (I doubt you are really) The fact your guys lined up, staged or otherwise, shows something about you. I think in reality, you and your brothers are fair employers and although the coal industry is as hard as it ever was, at least you're still there. For that we have to be thankful. Good luck to you, your brothers & employees.

You were really harsh on Joe he tried his best and you only gave him half pay he would have worked really well down the mine but you wouldn't let him, that was really mean. GRRRRR GGGRRRRR.
Malcolm Abertillery
I work at the mine were the filming took place and worked with richy cerdin and joe on a daily basis we had some great laughs well done boys.hope to meet you all again one day

congratulations bbc on producing such an insightful and interesting program about real welsh history. Absolutely loved it and will miss it
Ian, Bridgend
I agree with Gareth Alun that this programme should have been broadcast to the whole country. It's not just about authentically experiencing so many aspects of family, social and working life in times which were really hard - there are lessons to be had for all in the way in which people interacted with each other with decency, consideration and mutual respect because of, rather than in spite of, a hard existence.Show it to the whole country - you know it makes sense!
Sue from Pembrokeshire
What a fantastic series! Thoroughly enjoyed it - especially Mr Blandford sir, as Kath from Neath said - you are gorgeous!!

Watching this has kept us spellbound!! It has been a superb programme, with much hilarity at the shenanigans of Rhodri and the bantering between the Phillips family!I don't know how Steph has managed to keep all her children entertained in such close quarters - what a fab job!!
Ann Heath Bedlinog
Fantastic show More must be made.My Husband worked at that mine. The owners Mother taught my Granddaughter at our local primary school. She herself is now a teacher.
Harry now of London
As someone who worked in Big Pit in the 50sand as a boy, delivered meat to Stack Square I am enjoying the series immensely.I went to school with the lay preacher Gwillym Leek ,its particularly nice to see him after a great many years. However I think that even in the 50s the men would have had to work a lot harder to earn their pay.
Kath from Neath
This show has been brilliant and I don't want it to end! Oh and you're gorgeous Mr Blandford sir and you could order me around any day!
Wayne Evans, Merthyr
Got to agree with Ginge, Tim you act a lot better than you play golf.. Great show and educational for the children also, mine are addicted
stephan from ponty
brilliant bit of acting,if it is acting? by that i mean that being all butch and direct is a nice quality in a man.cant get enough of it!the acting i mean..xx
michelle from crickhowell
Great series loved every min. Hope there will be another series next year cant wait. My granfather was a miner and heard the stories great to see the reality more please next year
Gareth Alun from Hertfordshire
Love to programme, Just glad that I have Sky so that I can watch it as it is not on Freeview TV!! This should be shown to all not just Wales due to the fact that many of the miners of that time walked from england to find work in the mines!
Vee, S.Wales
I think the manager is playing his part well. From stories the family have told me this used to happen, and if there was no work, back home they would go.Some people think their working day is hard now, just think of the past and be gratfull for what we have.
Stephanie, Merthyr Tydfil
I think the mine manager can b harsh when they walk miles to the mine and get told to go home cos theres no work for them but that was life at that time. I love the progamme i wil miss it when it finishes!!
Nancy fromGwynedd north wales
i think the colamine manager is the best actor in the programme he can act very good and really makes the programme stand out!!!! he knows exactley hwo to treat the boys but he doesnt treatthem that bad!! xxx
gareth from garnant
I think Tim the manager of the mine is a good actor and i dont think he is being harsh to the miners. Im only 25 and i would love to have gone underground to work. The only chance I had was to go down big pit to see what it was like for them back then. good show hope its on next year with 3 different families
Callum thomas from Llanharry
No. I think they have to put a lot of effort to earn their money as they had to in 1927
stephen regan merthyr tydfil
Tim is a better actor than he his a golfer. Brill show hope they run the show again next year aka (ginger)
Tim, Pontypridd
Tim is being a typical manager for the 1920s. Absolutely brilliant programme, this is what reality tv should be like.
David Swansea
I think Tim is a natural actor and a very convincing mine manager of the period indeed. But 1927 would have been even tougher on the miners. An absolute brilliant television series!
mike Abertillery
Tim plays a great part, straight talking, stern dscissions, serious looks,a proper governor. How he does it without bursting into laughter i do'nt know.Well done Mr. Blanford.......
Sue, North Wales
I think the manager is being harsh, but that's how it was in 1927 I expect. And the programme has to be realistic. I love it!!
Jen from Chester
I expect it was a lot worse in reality. The mine owners cared nothing for their workers welfare, family, or problems. The only thing that mattered to them was the profit.
