- Dad: Richie (33) - Carpenter, builder and coal merchant
- Mum: Steph (40) - Housewife
- Children: Jade (16), Ryan (14), Katie (8), Daniel (8), Rhodri (2) and Gwennan (1)
- Location: The Vale of Glamorgan
Why did you want to take part in Coal House?
Stephanie: We saw an advert on the television and thought it sounded like an interesting idea. I see it as an opportunity to experience life as it was in simpler times. We live a relatively simple life already so we may not have as much of a shock as the other families although we're not sure what to expect even now.
Richie: I think I'd do anything to be cut off from hearing about Posh and Becks, Pete Doherty and Amy Winehouse.
What are you most looking forward to?
Steph: The experience of really living in the past and learning to find ways to entertain ourselves. We're quite good at finding things to make and do so hopefully this will mean that we won't drive each other mad.
Daniel: Seeing what it feels like to go back in time.
What do you think could make your Coal House experience difficult?
Steph: The toilet! Some members of this family are quite fussy eaters and we all eat quite a lot so keeping everyone well fed and happy with the food is going to be tricky.
Richie: Having no radio or television.
Jade: Washing in a tin bath. I'm not looking forward to that.
Ryan: Chores. I don't like doing jobs in the house today so I don't think it will be any better in 1927.
Katie: The food and the toilet paper.
Daniel: The food and the cold.
Why do you think you were chosen out of 150 families?
Stephanie: It's probably a joke to see how many of us can fit into the little cottage in Blaenavon. We're the largest family of the three.
What do you think you're going to miss most?
Steph: I'd really like to take my mascara with me but I don't fancy my chances. With six children I think I'll miss my washing machine too. Every day I think of something else I'm going to miss.
Richie: The settee. Where are we going to sit?
Jade, Ryan, Katie and Daniel: Friends.
Rhodri: Toy cars and cbeebies.
Gwennan: Comfortable nappies!
What do you know about life and work in a 1927 coal mining community?
Steph: We haven't been able to find much out about 1920s living on the internet and we haven't really had time to go to a library, so we're just going to have to find it all out when we get there.
Is there any family connection with coal mining?
Richie: My great great grandfather was killed in the Park Slip explosion in 1892 but unfortunately we don't have much information about him.
What kind of family would be your best/worst neighbours?
All: People who don't like children wouldn't work. Neighbours who don't mind quite a lot of noise are useful. We are noisy neighbours but hopefully, nice and friendly.
If you could have any job in the world, what would it be?
Steph: I can't think of anything. I've obviously been a mum for too long.
Richie: Bruce Parry's job from the Tribe television series would do me.
Jade: A trauma doctor.
Ryan: A professional driver.
Katie: Something helping animals.
