The ferreter

Shane Boxall took the Coal House men ferreting to find rabbits to feed the families.

What's your involvement in Coal House?

I took the Coal House men ferreting. I breed ferrets and use them to flush rabbits from their warrens before catching them in a net. I was introduced to ferreting by my father who took me out for the first time when I was only 18 months old, so I've been doing it for a while!

Coal House has been a fantastic experience, one of the best things I've ever done. I've done nothing but laugh since I got here. All the families are great and I've really enjoyed myself. I'm hoping they'll call me back.

How did the Coal House men do?

The men took to ferreting really well and I only needed to show them once. They didn't actually catch anything though, but myxomatosis has hit the rabbit population quite badly recently so I wasn't surprised.

Richie and Steffan enjoyed themselves so much they're interested in having a couple of ferrets of their own. We talked about meeting up after the show to go out with the ferrets. I look forward to it.

I think Shane the Ferreter was very unlucky not to catch any rabbits but I know there is a decline in numbers. Rabbit is a dish which I often enjoy and I know the families did too. The Coal House is the best show on TV at the moment but when will the mine reopen?

I don't like ferreting but i think they have done really well. I felt quite sad when they killed those rabbits but they done what they had to do.
