The Lloyds | Lesson: 2 | Level: Choose
2.4 - Who's he? He's...
Until now, you've learnt how to say you're doing something or to ask someone else what they're doing. Today you're going to find out how to talk about another person, or, more specifically, a male person. We join the Lloyd family - Catrin, Guto and Rhys at home, Rhys has asked his mother if it's all right to bring a friend - ffrind, home for dinner - cinio ... No problem - Dim problem. Pwy ydy e? - Who is he? Well, his name is Daniel ... and you can work the rest out for yourself. The key words in the last session were: mae e - (he is). The other new words for today are gyda - (with) - and chwarae - (play). Join the conversation just after Rhys has asked if Daniel can stay for a meal. Catrin - ... oh, dim problem. Pwy ydy e? Rhys - Daniel Morgan. Mae e yn yr ysgol gyda fi ... mae e yn y tîm rygbi ... a ... Catrin - Ble mae e'n byw? Rhys - Yn Palace Road. O - dyma Dad ... a Daniel. Hei Dan wyt ti'n ... Guto - Helo, she mae? Pwy ydy e? Catrin - Daniel, ffrind Rhys. Mae e yn yr ysgol gyda Rhys. Guto - Ydy e'n chwarae rygbi. Catrin - Ydy, mae e yn y tîm gyda Rhys. Mae e'n byw yn Palace Road ... ac mae e yma i ginio. Guto - Iawn. Catrin - Rhys - ydy Daniel yn hoffi cîg cangarw? Rhys/Guto - Mam! Catrin! Did you understand that Daniel is in school with Rhys - mae e yn yr ysgol gyda Rhys; and in the rugby team - mae e yn y tîm rygbi gyda Rhys; that he lives in Palace Road - mae e'n byw yn Palace Road; and that he's here for dinner - mae e yma i ginio. Questions about a third person, questions starting in English with 'does', in Welsh start with ydy? Does he play rugby? - Ydy e'n chwarae rygbi? Does Daniel like meat - ydy Daniel yn hoffi cig? To answer yes to a question starting with ydy, you say ydy. And no is nac ydy. What could be simpler? Lets see if you can say something in Welsh about a boy or a man you know. For example, where he lives - mae e'n byw yn Llanelli, and what he likes - mae e'n hoffi coffi. You could even ask yourself some questions about him: ydy e'n gweithio? ydy e'n mynd allan heddiw? and answer with ydy and nac ydy.
