Festival Site
The Eisteddfod 'Maes' (field)The festival is held on alternate years in the north and the south of Wales. Some exhibitions and pavilions remain a key part of the Eisteddfod and have been held successfully over the years. Here are some of them:

Main pavilion
Pavilion

The most presitigous place on the Eisteddfod field is the main Pavilion where the competitions are held. Tens of thousands of competitors have been preparing for this special week and have to go through preliminary competitions before they reach the Pavilion. The three best competitors of each preliminary competition appear on the main stage to compete for each prize.

The Arts and Crafts pavilion
The Arts and Crafts exhibition is an established part of the Eisteddfod today. Talented artists from all over Wales exhibit their work and young artists compete for prestigious awards such as The National Eisteddfod's Young Artist Scholarship. The exhibition includes graphic design, photography, textiles and ceramics. There is also a chance to see last year's winning work.

The rock pavilion
The place where Catatonia, Superfurrys and Big Leaves began their careers. Every year there's a rock pavilion on the field where bands come to perform from all over Wales. Only a handful of competitions are held here, mainly for new up-and-coming rock and pop groups. It's a place where young people meet to hear the latest from the Welsh rock and pop scene. No alcohol is served here or anywhere on the Eisteddfod field.

Science and Technology
See science workshops for children, interactive competitions, computer quizzes, science lectures and lots more.

Y Babell Lên (the literature pavilion)
Talented bards gather here for the famous Eisteddfod competition called 'Talwrn y Beirdd' (cock-fighting pit of the bards!) Tales are told and lectures are given here on Welsh literature.

Theatr y Maes
The Theatr y Maes (theatre of the field) has various drama performances from theatre and school plays to preliminary performances by groups competing for a place on the main stage. The most prestigious award for a solo drama performance in the Eisteddfod is the Richard Burton Memorial Award.

Welsh Learner's pavilion (Pabell y Dysgwyr)
Daily Welsh lessons, cooking, dancing, drama, craft workshops, informal chats, award ceremonies and guest speakers.
