Main prize - concerts
All the 2005 competitors were presented with goblets at the end of Concert 5 (Photo: Brian Tarr) The cream of the finest singers from all over the world at the start of their careers compete for the title BBC Cardiff Singer of the World.

There are five concerts, taking place in St David's Hall, Cardiff on 12-16 June 2005. Five competitors take part in each, and at the end of the concert, one is declared the winner of that evening.

After the fifth concert, the five highest ranked singers go through to the Final - these are not necessarily the winners from each concert. See the full rules here.

Concert 2: Monday 13 June
Concert 3: Tuesday 14 June
Concert 4: Wednesday 15 June
Concert 5: Thursday 16 June
Final: Sunday 19 June
