Song prize - recitals

The Final was held at St David's Hall, Cardiff on Friday 17 June.

In 2003 the Song Prize, previously integrated into the Competition, was given enhanced status with its own, freestanding event.

Singers are given the chance to present a full programme of art song, heard by the Song Prize jury in the New Theatre, Cardiff. An innovation this year is the introduction of a Final. As with the main prize, the five singers who have scored the highest go through to the Final.

The Song Prize is not compulsory, and 18 of the singers chose to take part this year.

The winner is Andrew Kennedy representing England.

As well as receiving £5,000 and a trophy donated by Welsh Royal Crystal, the winner is offered a Rosenblatt Recital at St John's Smith Square and selected as a BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist.

The Song Prize is given in association with the Rosenblatt Recital Series.
