The Colour Turquoise
I can't remember a year when a colour has been so much in evidence as this year with turquoise. Because dresses represent an investment for young singers they usually stick to something less seasonal but this year it has been cropping up everywhere.

As well as being fashionable, turquoise is very flattering for all hair and skin tones and works well in all levels from pale to dark. And if you don't want to go for top-to-toe turq, it looks good with all the classic colours - and of course it just loves sequins and shimmer!

So who obeyed the call of Dame Fashion this season?

On the stage we saw Irina Lungu (Moldova), her recital outfit complete with silver/turquoise jewellery now gracing the Frockwatch homepage. Amanda Echalaz's (South Africa) very theatrical concert outfit was a lovely pale turquoise/latte silk, and Marie-Josée Lord (Canada) was every inch the diva in a gown on the sea-green side of turquoise. Ivana Dimitrijevic's (Serbia & Montenegro) concert outfit was soft chiffon and looked fantastic against her pale skin and dark eyes and hair.

Marilyn Horne slipped on a Chinese silk jacket in bright turquoise on one night and Menna Richards (Controller, BBC Wales) handed out the crystal goblets in a neat jacket and flirty chiffon floral handkerchief hem, turquoise throughout.

At her masterclass with Dame Anne Evans, Amanda Echalaz sang Elsa in a bold turquoise satin top with beading and tassels that looked very much like princess regalia. In fact Amanda has been wearing turquoise every time I've seen her. A glance at the back of the stalls at St David's Hall and at the New Theatre where the singers' seats are would reveal plenty of turquoise.

And, as the photos below show, turquoise looks likely to win with the audience too!

But of course, you saw it here first! What colour are the webpage headers and links? Exactly! When our webmistress, Viv Goldberg, met me at the station last weekend wearing turquoise top to toe, including some rather fetching summery mules, I knew we were on track.
