A packed St David's Hall welcomes the first five competitors to the stage for Concert 1 on Sunday 10 June.
Five very different voices were heard in the opening concert of the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition last night.
Sae Kyung Rim from Korea, Luciano Botelho from Brazil, Ante Jerkunica from Croatia, Elizabeth Watts from England and Levente Molnár from Hungary set a very high standard for the rest of the competitors to match.
It can't have been easy for the jury, but they decided the winner of the night was Elizabeth Watts.
However, this isn't necessarily the last we see of the others. Although there is a winner every night, it is the five singers with the highest scores who go through to the final, so it is possible for none, or more than one, to get through from each round. For example, Tommi Hakala, the overall winner in 2003, did not win his concert round.
And many are also taking part in the Rosenblatt Recital Song Prize. You can see Sae Kyung Rim, Luciano Botelho, Elizabeth Watts and Levente Molnár in Recital 4 on Tuesday, to be broadcast on BBC Radio 3 on Friday.
