2007 competition
More than 1,000 singers applied to take part, of whom a record 677 auditioned in 44 locations worldwide. Twenty-five made it through to Cardiff.
The 25 finalists were in Cardiff between 9-17 June to sing before a panel of distinguished jurors and equally discerning audiences.
The competition was open to singers aged 18-36 on 1 June 2007, at the start of their careers. They had to demonstrate high levels of vocal talent, musicianship and communication skills.
The winner of BBC Cardiff Singer of the World 2007 was Shenyang from China. The Song Prize was won by Elizabeth Watts from England.
