2001 schedule

St David's Hall, Cardiff

Twenty-five of the finest singers from all over the world at the start of their careers competed for the title BBC Singer of the World in Cardiff.

There were five concerts, taking place in St David's Hall, Cardiff on 10-14 June 2001. Five competitors took part in each, and at the end of the concert, one is declared the winner of that evening.

After the fifth concert, the five highest ranked singers went through to the final. These were not necessarily the winners from each concert.

Concert 1: Sunday 10 June 2001

Taking part: Canada, England, Romania, USA, Slovakia

Concert winner: Marius Brenciu from Romania.

Concert 2: Monday 11 June 2001

Taking part: Ireland, Argentina, Latvia, Korea, Ukraine

Concert winner: Elina Garanca from Latvia.

Concert 3: Tuesday 12 June 2001

Taking part: Wales, Belarus, Israel, Mexico, Philippines

Concert winner: Andion Fernandez from the Philippines.

Concert 4: Wednesday 13 June 2001

Taking part: France, Greece, Russia, Germany, Australia

Concert winner: Markus Brück from Germany.

Concert 5: Thursday 14 June 2001

Taking part: Bulgaria, Scotland, Poland, Macedonia, Georgia

Concert winner: Anna Kiknadze from Georgia.

Final: Saturday 16 June 2001

Taking part: Australia, Romania, Russia, Germany, Latvia

Winner: Marius Brenciu from Romania.
