Mathew Maycock: What Do You Make Of This?

What Do You Make Of This?

By Mathew Maycock
January 2005, Caerphilly
A digital story from Capture Wales

Hi. My name is Mat. I come from Cefn Hengoed and I'm going to show you some things.

What do you think this is? It's a twister; one of a pair.

What about this one? It's a burgen.

Now this one; it's a hexi-cooker.

Do you like this one? It's a hexi-block.

What about these? They're my waterproof matches.

Do you recognise this one? It's a scrim.

What about this one? It's cam cream.

So what about this? This should give the game away; it's my uniform and this is my beret. When I put this on, and pick up all my gear, I'm showing you what it's all for.

I'm in the cadets and I'm going to join the army. I'm from Cefn Hengoed, but I'm going to go loads of places.

Your comments

"This story is very abstract, at first I was not sure as to what this particular story was going to be talking about, but my not knowinglead to further engagement within the story. It kept my interest. I particularly liked your choice of "music/sound" it added suspense to the ultimate reveal at the conclusion!" Chantel, Canada.

"I liked how you used the objects to have me guess on what they might be, ultimately sharing your life and your passion with me the viewer. It really caught my attention and had me interested the entire time. Well done." Jason from Chatham.

"Congrats on being in the cadets its definitely not an easy group to be in your parents msut be proud." Kyle Stokes from Canada.
