Lynne Thomas: Jelly Cooper

Jelly Cooper

By Lynne Thomas
2005, Caerphilly
A digital story from Shoebox Stories

"This is Jelly Cooper and she's what you might call a nasty piece of work.

She doesn't have time for goody two-shoes, oh no. She positively hates being in a crowd and cheer leaders make her sick. Here are Jelly's friends, Humphrey Goddard and Agatha Lewinsky. And these are the aliens. Jelly's the main character in the children's book that I've written.

When I was little all I wanted to do was be an author. But as I grew up life got in the way and I forgot about writing. Four years ago I bought a children's novel on impulse and two hours later I'd finished the book and kicked myself for wasting so much time. That afternoon after twelve years away from the typewriter, I flexed my fingers and my imagination and started writing a book of my own.

Some people have an imaginary friend when they're young. I never did. But as a grownup I've got a whole head full of them."

Your comments

"Wow, Lynne is another heroine on my heroes and heroines list for making me feel like I can achieve something even if life is getting in the way. Could someone tell me whether Lynne has published that story of Jelly Cooper coz I'd adore to read it. Luv someone who would love to be an author (and actress) x" Heather from Anglesey.
