Look at me now

By Geraint Jones
April 2003, Llanharry
A digital story from Capture Wales

From Humiliation to Animation

Geraint's interest in computers and animation helps him overcome memories of the bullying he suffered at school.

"I left school last year because I hated every minute of it. I hated the bullying and humiliation. I hated the constant abuse from the other pupils. But I found a way to escape.

I can forget about all my troubles by logging on to my computer. My computer would never answer me back, make fun of my weight or question my personal feelings. If only those bullies could see me now and see what I can create.

I can work with my brother and sister, to bring their drawings to life. I love to control the characters and objects on the screen - just like those bullies control my feelings.

I only wish I could have stopped the bullying and humiliation - like stopping a play head in one of my animations.

It's amazing what computers can do, what I can do."

End slide - Thanks Rhys.

Please tell us a little about yourself
I left school last year due to the bullying, but now I work part time at the youth centre in the Rhondda Valleys.

What's your story about?
It's about the hard time I had at school and how I found a way to forget everything using technolgy. I don't know why I chose to tell this particular story - I had thought about other stories, but this was the best to tell.

How did you find the workshop experience?
I enjoyed the computer and the digital cameras most.

Your comments

"My daughter was bullied at school, i think i spent more time at school trying to protect her, against one particular teacher, who was not worthy of her job, no one contacted the bullies parents, so they had very little idea of what their charmers were up to, i wouldn't want to go through it again, the whole system is failing all the pupils, i have lived in wilts for the last 12 years, i cant see us coming back to wales shame really."
