My name is Emad and I'm from Jordan. This is my first time in the UK and I'm here in Cardiff on a course. I reached the place that was to be my home for 3 months and with a smile they gave me the key.
I approached the building and I thought, 'this is nice - I like this' but... Opening my room I was shocked at what I saw - it was so small! The bed, the desk and the important thing is the bathroom which is the worst bathroom I have ever seen in my life. There was was nowhere to run and I said to myself 'you can do this'.
The first night in the bed the problem was for my legs. They stuck out at the bottom! I did not know I had to apply for a long bed - nobody told me! But I'm not especially tall - I'm about 6 foot.
Now back again to my nightmare loo. I didn't know how the students who normally live here coped with it. I thought - 'how will I clean myself in that tiny room?'
I need to explain a cultural difference to you. In my country we use water before using paper to wipe ourselves and we always have a bidet next to the toilet. But here in my bathroom I can't reach the water!
By now, I have started to cope with living in my new tiny room - including the bathroom - but I am not sure that when I go back home I will tell this funny story. I don't think I will prepare my friends before they vist the UK. Let them find out for themselves. I'm not giving away my secret as to how I worked things out with the water.
