Set Free

A digital story from Capture Wales

New Life

Dean awakens to his new life, free from drugs.

"Who'd have thought my life would turn out the way it has? For 10 miserable years, I was addicted to heroin and crack cocaine. I couldn't change no matter how much I tried.

There were many painful experiences. I got so desperate that I even attempted to smuggle... thinking that at the worst I would either earn enough money to go into rehab or get put into prison and get off drugs that way. I tried to commit suicide several times.

My hopelessness brought me to ask myself 'Is there a God?' If so surely he could put my life back together again.

I searched for God in many avenues but still I remained a drug addict. I was contemplating suicide again when something incredible happened.

My mum's friend, Paula, had a dream I was in a coffin and she drove from Newport to Coventry to find me.

Paula is a Christian and revealed that Jesus could change my life. She prayed with me and I felt an enormous sense of relief. At my lowest point God came knocking at the door. Paula invited me to live with her family; I received Jesus in my life and began what feels to me like a personal relationship with him, not a distant religion.

God has brought me peace that I have never encountered before.

I have a new outlook in life and work with Teen Challenge helping other addicts and teaching children in schools about the dangers of drugs.

On my wedding day with my lovely wife I knew I was changed forever. Now I believe in miracles.

Thank you, Jesus, for setting me free."
