Circle of Youth

By Sian and Marley
March 2009,

Tairgwaith Teenagers

In 2005, a small group of teenagers decided to set up their own youth group to give them something to do in the village of Tairgwaith in the Amman Valley.

Sian (16) and Marley (14) have been members of the Circle of Youth since the beginning. They started by writing a monthly newsletter which they distributed to every house in Tairgwaith.

In 2007-8, the group decided to clear a patch of wasteland and replace it with a memorial garden where local people could sit and enjoy the peace and quite. Group leader Trudy Launchbury says the work of the Circle of Youth has changed attitudes locally about teenagers.
