The appointment process

The BBC Trust appoints, on the recommendation of an independent selection panel, between eight and twelve members to the BBC Audience Council Wales. Appointments take place on an annual basis to replace members whose term has expired after open advertising and according to a fair, open and proportionate process in line with current best practice relating to public appointments.

The ACW is expected to be broadly representative of the licence fee payers in Wales, particularly in relation to geographical spread, language, ethnic or national origin, gender, age, disability and demography. The BBC Trust seeks to ensure that the ACW's membership will include experience of a broad range of issues which may include disability issues, minority ethnic communities, beliefs, sexual orientation, and issues related to age, basic skills, and urban and rural communities.

Members are be appointed for an initial term of three years, with the option of an extension of tenure for up to a further 2 years.
