As one who is "attractive" to midges and mosquitos I tried a tip from a camping magazine, and although I have not tested it in Scotland it worked in the U.S.and Spain. Simply take a vitamin B1 tablet per day starting a week or two before exposure to the little beasts. Worth a try - it worked for me.
