ABOLITION: CAPOERIA
By Luis do Patrocinio
Abolicao Oxford is a Capoeira group based in Oxford. Capoeira itself is a Brazilian artform created by African slaves, combining martial arts, dance and music. Luis do Patrocinio, known to his students as Luis Negão, moved to Oxford seven years ago and started Abolicao, which translates as 'abolition'. In his film he gives an insight into what it was like to move to a new country with little grasp of the language or the culture, to eventually making a great success of his Capoeira classes.
